Pablo and I ventured to Alpharetta to have a full Thanksgiving meal with the fam. Pablo got lucky, Aunt Mary made a full turkey – with dark meat and all!

After we finished carving our “all white meat” turkey, we threw the carcas and bones into a pot and added the juices from the turkey pan with water, carrots, celery, dill and a dash of pepper. After balling up matzoh meal, we had the most delicious matzoh ball soup on the stove. Pablo said the smell reminded him of growing up. Ah! It reminded me of Bubbie’s soup – yum!
While our soup was simmering, we Pablo took apart our closet so we could finish spackling before painting WIP’s room. It was my job to lay down the plastic and tape the edges.

We ended up purchasing the Gulliver crib from Ikea and assembled it in less than one hour. Ah, lovely Ikea directions. We did have to go to Ikea twice because the crib I originally wanted had an extra couple of inches of crib which extended past where the mattress would lay. Dangerous! We had to go back home and research the cribs they did have in stock. The only part of this crib that moves is the mattress level. So when WIP gets acrobatic like his/her father, we’ll have to lower the mattress. Pablo did a fabulous job painting. We used a zero VOC paint we found at Home Depot called Freshaire. It made the room so much brighter and cozy.
Pablo and I decided to staying in Atlanta this year, since he’s been traveling so much for work.
On Tuesday, I was in the area and decided to stop in at the Toco Hills Kroger since they have a Kosher section. The fresh turkeys were all 24+ pounds and for Pablo and I alone, that was way too much meat. The only other kosher turkeys they had were frozen. I picked up a 7 pounder and dropped it in the cart.
I was so excited to be cooking a kosher turkey, since Pablo swears it taste different than a conventional turkey.
When I unwrapped it yesterday morning, I realized there was no neck, nor livers that are usually stuffed in the cavity when you buy it nor were there legs. I thought this was strange, but still prepared it and stuck it in the oven. I had to let Paul down, no legs. “What do you mean there’s no legs? How is this a turkey?” He asks. I promise him that there’s got to be thighs and he’ll have his dark meat.
4 hours later as we take the big out of the oven and begin to cut, we see there’s nothing but white meat. I bought an all white meat bird. Strangely enough, there’s no wings, no thighs, no legs – only breast. How fitting. Regardless, my husband put a smile on his face and ate some of the white meat along with a large serving of Kugel.
At least we got Irene’s Kugel and our pies (Pumpkin and Apple Crumb) right.
We traveled to Alpharetta, just North of the border to visit with the Harris family where Pablo was able to enjoy some of Aunt Mary’s dark meat and I partook in sweet potato casserole. Mom especially requested Lynn’s Apple Cake, which was a big hit (I didn’t tell anyone how much butter was in the mix).
We topped the evening off with Bruce’s bonfire and s’mores. Yum!
We made our annual pilgrimage to Uncle Shucks’ Corn Maze last night. It was Sadie’s first outing and she enjoyed navigating so long as bunny was with her. Since we visited a little later this year than in years past, half of the maze was taken out by the rain, but we made it through many check points on the right side of the tree (corn maze shape) and then busted out of the maze to award ourselves with Hot Cocoa and toasted marshmallows. WIP loved the marshmallows!
Sadie’s so savvy – she took these two photos while sleeping!
Pablo and I got to visit with WIP today at our 20 week ultrasound. He/She was uncooperative, the doctor had wiggle my belly around to see it’s heart. Four chambers, blood flow good, no thyroid issues. However, WIP didn’t want to show it’s face. It must have wanted to play hide and seek. WIP weighs 11 ounces today and we’re on schedule for a late March birthday based on WIP’s size. The placenta is towards my back, but not near my spine – which is good.
This is a view from the side. WIP didn’t want to lay flat. You can see it’s eye sockets and big belly.
Cute feet!
WIP’s saying hello.
Side view, nope – it’s not a BOY for sure. It’s an umbilical cord people!
Another scary head view. WIP can’t wait for Halloween next year!
