We tried to be nice to the Grenade, since it was nice to us.
Jaffe insisted that we get beads for a true New Orleans experience. Pablo and his ginormous beads:
Adam finally dragged us to New Orleans for Jazzfest this year. We truly had a New Orleans experience. K-Paul's, Shrimp Po Boys, Cafe du Monde's Beignets, Commanders Palace - did we just eat our way through New Orleans? Well, yes, yes we did.
Saturday we ventured to the Fairgrounds where the festival takes place. At noon we dined on Jambalaya, Shrimp Creole and my favorite, Bread Pudding. We watched some of the Soul Stage and then felt some rain drops. The rain drops pushed us into the Blues stage and we enjoyed jazz from a Norwegian band with a New Orleans singer. It was quite entertaining.
At 2:30 we heard the banging of the drums from Cowboy Mouth and wanted so badly to see them perform. The rain at this point was just pouring on the tents. We somehow made it to the kids tent, a little wet from the torrential down pour and discovered we were in hell. The kiddie tent, pouring rain outside and nowhere else to go to keep dry. But as true fans, we sucked it up and ran over to the Cowboy Mouth performance, sneaking under our fellow fan's umbrellas. Needless to say, we did not get around to staying for Billy Joel. My favorite experience of the day was finding a taxi. Mind you,
it's still pouring rain and the city of New Orleans expects you to wait in line for a taxi. Forget that! We found our way to the end of the line and started opening doors to taxis for a ride. They are so well trained and told us they could not take us, that they had to wait in line. Luckily we found a taxi that would take us - soaked at this point. We shared the cab with some Louisianna locals, not that we could understand what they said, but it was fun. Adam had his car there and after we showered and warmed up, we dined at Mandina's.
